Ian Gaffney

I joined MMA Krava Maga 12 years ago I am a level five instructor.
I come from a military background of 13 years service eight years of that in the parachute regiment and five years in the royal regiment of Fusiliers. In my time in the army I learn to box and also learnt Unarmed combat.

On leaving the army I took up karate. I became a brown belt in karate. I also became a London black cab driver which led me to joining the self defence classes run by the cab drivers union and I met Rick it was his first opening day for cab drivers. I took to it straightaway and have been here ever since that day I’m pleased to say. One of the things I learnt with Ricky was there was just as much a mental side to a fighting technique as well as a physical side and I benefited from both. I also learnt that size does not matter with the techniques we used as I am 6 foot five and found that people of a smaller size can execute moves on a person much larger.

The Club over the years has brought me many happy times and made me many friends it has become a large part of my life and helped me progress in other directions. I went on to become a close protection officer also an instructor in self defence for a close protection company. The club and Ricky as a friend has benefited me a great deal in my life.
